Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the internet. Sweet Lizzy is a food blog with a little herbal and plant magic mixed in. The blog shares recipes that I make, eat and enjoy myself. Recipes on Sweet Lizzy are entirely gluten free and often dairy or grain free.
I haven’t always been into health, wellness and food. In fact, my parents had to melt that fake neon cheese over my vegetables just so I would eat them. Let’s just say I’ve come a long way.
I only began to be more aware of what I was consuming when I started playing professional beach volleyball (yup I was a pro athlete-story for another day). After four years of exclusively eating the marshmallows from a Lucky Charms box in University it all finally caught up with me. I was sick all of the time, my hormones were a mess and my body couldn’t keep up with the pressure I was putting on it. Slowly, I started to dabble in healthier food choices and over the years I transitioned from a junkaholic to a full blown food and wellness lover(We are talking stage five clinger level). Learning to listen to my body and eat as intuitively as possible has been one of the greatest lessons.
When my career as an athlete came to an end I decided to take my new found interest in food and nutrition to the next level. I went back to school for Holistic Nutrition with the Institute of Holistic Nutrition in Toronto as well as Culinary Nutrition with the online Academy of Culinary Nutrition. I have spent time in organic kitchens making food and menu planning and now I try to incorporate wild foods and herbal medicine in my day to day life. Herbal medicine is my new passion and I hope to share that with you on Sweet Lizzy as well. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it. xo
