Welcome to the Sweet Lizzy Maui Travel Guide! This guide highlights some of my favourite places to eat, visit and see on the island of Maui, a truly magical place. I hope you find this helpful!
Notes:
- I didn’t include where to stay in this guide. Both times I have been we either did airbnb or rented a condo. We stayed in Paia as well as close to Lahaina. I liked both as they were both a little out of the way and more secluded.
- You need to rent a car on Maui. It’s just easier to get around the island.
- I didn’t include beaches and places to relax. You can pretty much stop at any of the beaches and have a wonderful afternoon!
- Always travel with a water bottle and bathing suit. You never know when you are going to go on a hike or find a beach.
- Bring warm clothes or a blanket up to Haleakala.
- Eat the honey. Trust me, Hawaiian honey is out of this world.
Groceries
I have included places where you can find organic foods as well as paleo and vegan options.
Whole Foods Market- A standard Whole Foods Market that you can go to from the airport.
Costco- Great to pick up towels etc right from the airport.
Mana Foods- One of my favourite places to get groceries on Maui! A huge selection and filled with great products. Mana is located in Paia.
Hawaiian Moon Natural Foods- A good option if you are staying in Kihei for organic products.
Down to Earth Organics and Naturals- Similar to Whole foods with a food bar.
Farmers Market Maui- If you are staying north of Lahaina this is a great little store to pick up some essentials or go for a smoothie.
Basically every fruit stand on the side of the road. Seriously, just stop and get some fresh fruit.
Places to Eat
Some of my favourite places to visit on Maui for meals, smoothies or snacks!
Choice Health Bar- Really great (and expensive!) acai bowls as well as some tasty raw/vegan meals.
Paia Fish Market- Really fresh fish. They now have three locations on the island.
Coconut Glen’s- A must stop on the Road to Hana! Vegan coconut Ice cream.
Wow Wow Hawaiian Lemonade- A tasty spot for acai bowls and smoothies.
Maui Brick Oven- A completely gluten free restaurant serving pizzas.
Bamboo Fresh Cafe- Salads, wraps and smoothies. We stopped here and picked up some salads to go. Delicious!
Maui Kombucha- Get your kombucha fix here with kombucha on tap and growlers.
O’O Farms- One of my favourite places. You must make a reservation as it is a farm tour and a beautiful 5 course outdoor meal. So worth the trip! You even get to pick your own salad greens.
Places to Adventure
Get your adventure on with some of my favourite things to do on Maui!
Kihei Canoe Club- Thanks to my Aunt for letting us know about this spot. They do visitor paddles Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7am. Wake up early and have a fun family friendly paddle!
Haleakala- A must visit when you are in Maui. I have only ever done the sunrise and it is worth waking up at 3am for! Go early in your trip before you become adjusted to the time change. Make sure to bring warm clothes or a blanket to wrap around yourself though- it is cold there without the sun!
Old Lahaina Luau- A fun way to spend an evening- dinner and a show!
The Road to Hana- A must do on your trip (even just to get ice cream at Coconut Glens). Start early and only stop at the places you want to visit or else you will be driving in the dark. There are lots of waterfalls, beaches (black and red sand) as well as hikes. We decided to drive all the way around instead of turning back and it was SO worth it.
Surf Shack- We rented a board and had a friend give us a surf lesson but you can also sign up for lessons. A super fun morning adventure. You can also rent stand up paddle boards!
Maui Swap Meet- Every Saturday there is a huge market! With all kinds of artisans, vintage Hawaiian clothing, food and even massage therapy booths make sure to go early to avoid the heat. 50 cents entrance fee!
Snorkelling- Rent a set of snorkels and masks for the time you are in Maui. Keep them in your car in case you come across a snorkel spot. Snorkel Bob’s lets you rent them!
Hiking- There are lots of great hikes in Maui. We did Waihee Ridge Trail (stunning views) and Pipiwai Trail(Bamboo Forest!) on our last trip.
