OK, this is decadence. It’s not a not your average hot chocolate kind of thing. I would more likely call this a dessert. It is rich, slightly sweet and a little bitter and oh so warming. You might be able to split this with a loved one by the fireplace. Huzzah! Are you ready to give it a go?

The secret to making a drinking chocolate instead of a hot chocolate is melting 100% chocolate into the drink! It becomes so rich and decadent that it feels like a dessert. This isn’t really a morning pick me up drink, it’s more of an evening cuddling up on the couch and I want to treat myself to some serious chocolate drink. I used Giddy Yoyo’s 100% chocolate and sweetened with local maple syrup. If you use less than 100% chocolate you might not need to add any sweetener to the recipe at all. Just taste and adjust to your liking!
I also make these drinks with homemade almond milk. It’s just SO MUCH BETTER. Seriously. I can’t emphasize that enough. My recipe is here. If you do use a store bought, be sure to use an unsweetened version or the drink will be too sweet.
Lastly, adding collagen peptides(US/CAN) to this drink takes it from ordinary drinking chocolate to next level elixir. Of course, if you are vegan you can always leave it out or try this vegan powder from Anima Mundi Herbals (I haven’t tried it yet but have heard good things!).
