Lemons are my favourite. Really though, who doesn’t love a good lemon? When it comes to sour vs sweet I usually always choose sour, but why choose when you can have them both. This Turmeric Lemon Tart Smoothie has the best of both worlds plus it’s vegan, paleo, dairy free and has turmeric to boot!
Let’s make some smoothies!

Short story time. A little cafe down the street from us served a lemon tart smoothie and it was the only thing I would order. EVER. And then, one day, it was off the menu. Just like that. GONE. How could one take such a delicious thing OFF THE MENU? I ask myself this everyday. Did nobody like it? Am I the only person who likes lemony things? Maybe, but I decided to make my own version to share with any other lemon lovers out there. And guess what, I added turmeric. Why not? Everyone loves a good dose of turmeric – it gives it a really pretty soft yellow colour without adding an overpowering taste (as turmeric sometimes can).
This smoothie uses a frozen banana and ice to make it cold. It isn’t a particularly thick smoothie so if you like your smoothies really thick I would suggest freezing the coconut milk in ice cubes. When preparing the lemon, just cut it in half and use a knife to cut the lemon peel off. I threw the whole thing in the vitamix and don’t worry about the few seeds there may be. If you have a less powerful blender and are worried about the seeds simply use a fork to remove them before adding the lemon flesh to the blender.

I never think to use lemon in my smoothies, I tend to lean towards chocolate. 🙂 This sounds like a bright, refreshing alternative!
