Strawberry Honey Hibiscus Shrub

Is it strawberry season yet?? Wait…. there is still snow in the forecast and it’s almost April. Is everyone else longing for that fresh spring produce like me? The warm breeze, outdoor farmers markets, the backyard gardens and all of the locally grown food you could want?! I can’t be the only one. So to prepare for the first fruit of the season I am sharing the Strawberry Honey Hibiscus Shrub recipe so you will be ready when those strawberries come around. Let’s do this!

Hibiscus Healer (with Orange, Ginger and Lemon)

We sip tea on the daily in this household. On the couch with Netflix or the Toronto Raptors bouncing around in front of us, on the deck in the sweet summer evenings, in the kitchen as we prep, formulate and invent new(or old) recipes/meals and even (gasp!) in bed with a good book. We don’t drink coffee in our home simply because we can’t be bothered. I am not a fan and if my man wants some he goes to a local cafe where they can make it much better than we can. So, we stick to tea. (speaking of tea have you checked out my guide to making your own herbal tea blend?)

How to Create a Personalized Herbal Tea Blend (& one of my favourite blends!)

There is something a little bit magical about creating your own herbal tea blend. It’s as though you are formulating a potion just for you- mixing and matching different herbs for different needs- anxiety, stress, sleep, focus, energy immunity- you name it!

There is also something a little bit daunting about making your own herbal tea blend. Where to start? What herbs should I buy? How do I combine them? In my opinion, tea blending is the perfect way to begin your own home apothecary and is is the simplest way to use herbs, aside from cooking with them of course! You can start with a few basic herbs (you probably already have one or two in your spice cupboard!) and then go from there. It is important to note how the herbs act in YOUR own body and how they make you feel. I have a few favourites that I always seems to go back to like chamomile, lemon verbena, lemon balm, passionflower and hibiscus.

Grapefruit, Clementine & Rosemary Shrub

How was your Christmas and holiday? I made these handmade gifts and they were a hit! Did you try them? I am planning on making more herbal products in 2018 for the blog because they are so fun, easy and customizable. Today I have another herbal project that is one of my favourites. It involves fruit, honey and apple cider vinegar. Can you guess what it is? [Read more…] about Grapefruit, Clementine & Rosemary Shrub

DIY Body Balm | Douglas Fir and Orange Body Balm

In need of some last minute gifts? Not to worry, I’ve got you covered! Body balms are really fun to create and make charming stocking stuffers or small tokens of gratitude for the holiday season. They are fairly simple to prepare and just require a few key ingredients: olive oil (or oil of choice), beeswax, vitamin E oil, essential oils (I used Douglas Fir and Orange) and shea butter. Ready to try it?

Elderberry Cranberry Sauce

I am a big fan of Harry Potter.

There I said it. I’m a Potterhead.

And it seems as though I am not the only one in Toronto that feels this way. Exhibit A. Exhibit B.

I am also a big fan of hibernating in my little corner of the internet when the holidays come around. Things get hectic. So instead of searching a hundred different cookie recipes I will be curled up on my couch, sippin’ some warm tea under the coziest of blankets.

You too? K, good.

And if you do decide to enter the chaos of the holidays you can try this recipe which has a nod to my friend HP. [Read more…] about Elderberry Cranberry Sauce
