Happy February! With winter in full effect as well as colds, flus and generally an “I’m over this cold weather” feeling I have brought you the simplest recipe today that is warming and also good for you! Hot lemonade. Yes friends, I said HOT LEMONADE. This is my go to warm drink after a long hike or exercise in the winter months. I find it very hydrating and satisfying AND it can help with those darn sniffles that keep coming back. Are you ready to give it a go?

Blood Orange and Elderberry Elixir
Put your hand up if you get sick at least once a winter?
I thought so. I also used to find myself getting sick every winter (siigh) but over the years have learned that reducing my sugar intake, upping my vitamins and trying to get lots of rest helps tremendously. And the for the last two seasons I have taken Wild Muskoka’s Elderberry Syrup and have stayed healthy the WHOLE WINTER. Imagine that. Everyone else is sneezing, coughing and just exhausted and here I am feeling fabulous.
Wild Muskoka Botanicals was kind enough to send me some of their product so I could share with you the magic of elderberries. I created this beautiful warm tonic to sip on throughout the winter with blood orange juice, ginger, lemon and of course, elderberry syrup. It’s the perfect winter elixir to keep you healthy!

Watermelon and Holy Basil Chia Fresca
Cold elixirs are basically my life right now. Case and Point: Matcha Basil Limeade, Blue Magic Lemonade, Kombucha Slushie. Can’t stop won’t stop. I think I am just going to throw an alcohol free elixir party and you are all invited. Sound good? Good.
First on the list will be this Watermelon Holy Basil Chia Fresca. Are you ready to give it a go?
Tahitian Lemonade (with Blue Majik)
Lemonade anyone? What if I told you there was a lemonade out there that will basically change the way you make lemonade forever?! It’s called Tahitian lemonade and you add full fat coconut milk. Yup, life changing.
I first had Tahitian lemonade in this cute little cafe on the island of Kauai. My first response-
“what is this magical drink?!”
my second response
“I must make this at home, more people need to know about it”
Enter, this recipe with a Sweet Lizzy twist (BLUE MAJIK addition = REAL MAGIC)

Matcha Basil Limeade (paleo, refined sugar free)
Hi Friends!! Happy Thursday!
We are heading off to Hawaii for a wedding today and I couldn’t be more excited! I am talking sun, sand and hopefully some really awkward tan lines. coming. my. way.
We chose to stay at an airbnb which I love because being able to cook my own meals wins over relying on hotel food and eating out every time. I know that Maui will have GREAT food (I already booked us an organic farm tour and lunch) but I still want to be able to prepare my own food from time to time. I have a feeling this refreshing matcha basil limeade might make it into the Hawaii mix. Are you ready to give this a try?

Chocolate Beet Latte and 2018 Book List
Last year I started keeping a book list at the beginning of the year and I must say I really enjoyed it. I’m not in a book club and this was a way to keep myself accountable. I can find it hard to keep track of books I want to read and before I did my book list I would sometimes find myself going months without reading! For my list I have one rule – that most of the books have to be from my own bookshelf. You see, when we moved into our house we had a giant bookshelf that we filled with books from friends and family- many of them ones I haven’t read. The rest of the books I have chosen are ones that I have seen good reviews on, have been gifted to me, or recommended by someone. The books that I don’t have at home I will order at the Toronto Public Library (A fantastic resource for Torontonians!) or online.
